The Scheme

As a member of the MSD Pension Scheme or the MSD Animal Health Pension Scheme, you have DB benefits (Final Salary or CARE benefits) in your Scheme for retirement.

  • If you ceased to be an active member of your Scheme before 31 March 2013 you will only have benefits in one of the Final Salary Sections.
  • If you were an active member of your Scheme after 31 March 2013 you may also have benefits in the CARE Section.

Below, you can select your membership category to see information that’s relevant to you.

Unsure of your membership category?

Active member

You are an active member if you currently work for the Company and previously built up benefits in the Scheme. Whilst you retain a salary link, your benefits became ‘deferred’ when the Scheme closed to future accrual in 2018 and future contributions were redirected to the Company’s Defined Contribution arrangement.

Deferred member

You are a deferred member if you have previously built up DB or CARE benefits in either Scheme and have left MSD employment. Your pension benefits are preserved in the Scheme and will be paid out when you reach the Scheme’s retirement age or you choose to take your benefits.

Pensioner member

You are a pensioner member if you are receiving a pension from your Scheme. This category includes dependant members – if you are receiving a Scheme pension following the death of a former member.
